Osteoarchaeology: Human stories from the bones
Becky Gowland is a senior lecturer in Bioarchaeology at the University of Durham. She currently teaches human skeletal analysis at both Undergraduate and Masters level.
Dr. Gowland also co-organises and teaches a short course in Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology.
Becky’s research interests include the archaeology of childhood and the relationship between the body and identity.

Reflecting in the bath - Little Shop of Physics
An internally frosted, large light bulb is dipped into a fish tank of water, and the total internal reflection effect produces ‘other-worldly’ consequences to how the bulb looks in the water. The bulb goes from white to a silvery orb. Turning the bulb on, produces a similar, but more alluring effect.

A friend of the Elf has ankylosis spondylitis, a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease that affects mainly the skeleton, causing inflammation of the spine, but can also affect the peripheral joints, eyes, bowel and skin.
